Our Story

How AAIVF Came to Be

Asian Americans Impacting Virginia Foundation was born from a simple but urgent recognition: Virginia's Asian American population was growing rapidly, yet the civic infrastructure to support meaningful participation — the pathways to leadership, the culturally relevant resources, the organized community voice — was not keeping pace.

In 2026, a group of leaders and advocates from Virginia's Asian communities came together with a shared conviction: that lasting change requires organized, sustained effort. They incorporated AAIVF as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the Commonwealth of Virginia — not to be a temporary initiative, but a permanent institutional home for Asian American civic life in the state.

From Chesterfield to Glen Allen to Midlothian, our founding members represent the geographic and experiential diversity of Virginia's Asian American communities. That breadth of perspective is built into everything we do.

What Guides Us

Our Core Values

Accessibility First

We believe opportunity should never be gated by financial circumstance, background, or prior connections. Every door AAIVF opens stays open.

Community-Led

Our direction comes from the communities we serve. We listen before we act, and we ensure the people most affected by our work have a seat at the table that shapes it.

Long-Term Thinking

We build infrastructure, not campaigns. AAIVF is designed to grow with Virginia's Asian American community for generations — not just respond to the urgency of the moment.

Whole-Person Approach

True empowerment encompasses leadership, wellness, belonging, and civic voice together. We don't separate these — we build programs that address the whole person.

Why Virginia

A State at a Turning Point

Virginia is home to one of the fastest-growing Asian American populations in the United States. Yet representation in elected office, civic boards, nonprofit leadership, and public discourse remains disproportionately low. The gap between demographic growth and civic power is where AAIVF operates.

We believe Virginia is at a turning point — a moment when the investment in Asian American civic infrastructure will compound in impact for decades. AAIVF exists to make that investment, and to ensure it reaches every corner of the Commonwealth.
